Het publiek wordt meegenomen in een confronterend experiment over intieme terreur. Door poëtische gelaagdheden krijg je een ervaring waarbij de zintuigen worden geprikkeld en mogelijke herinneringen worden aangeboord.

 

“Wie neemt verantwoordelijkheid voor dit bloed?”

is de vraag die we stellen over vrouwenmoord.

 

De barbaarsheid van femicide wordt geëxposeerd door middel van een doodsritueel onder uitdagende omstandigheden. Op een decor dat het patriarchaat symboliseert worden de vrouwen muzikaal voortgestuwd met alle gevolgen van dien - gedanst door Luana van Eekeren en Rosanna ter Steege.

 

The Rite begint met het einde. Of is dat juist het begin? De lijnen vervagen.

 

Als aanvulling op de voorstelling is er een panel over intieme terreur en femicide en discussie over ervaringen en mogelijke preventie, gemodereerd door mensenrechtendadvocaat Geraldine Moodley.

Project Zahira werkt samen met de Gemeente Amsterdam om The Rite in te zetten als educatie-middel voor professionals in sectoren van (zeden)politie, Openbaar Ministerie en hulpverlening. Op 11 en 12 maart wordt er voor professionals gespeeld en op 13 maart voor algemeen publiek. Uitnodigingen en aanmeldingen om The Rite te zien gaan rechtstreeks via de Gemeente Amsterdam. The audience is taken along in a confronting experiment about intimate terror. Through poetic layers you get an experience in which the senses are stimulated and possible memories are tapped.

 

“Who takes responsibility for this blood?”

is the question we ask about women’s killings.

 

The barbarity of femicide is exposed by means of a death ritual under challenging circumstances. On a set that symbolizes the patriarchy, the women are musically propelled with all the consequences - danced by Luana van Eekeren and Rosanna ter Steege.

 

The Rite starts with the ending. Or is that just the beginning? The lines blur.

 

In addition to the performance, there is a panel about intimate terror and femicide and a discussion about experiences and possible prevention, moderated by human rights lawyer Geraldine Moodley.

Performance dates: 11-13 March 2025

Project Zahira works closely with the City of Amsterdam to utilize The Rite as an educational tool for professionals in the sectors of (criminal) police, public prosecutor's office, and crisis help. On March 11th and 12th, the performance is shown for professionals and on March 13th for a general audience.
