In the dance theater duet The Rite, the audience is taken along in a social experiment. “Who takes responsibility for this blood?” is the question the makers ask about the killings of women, ‘femicide.’

 

In the old ballet Le Sacre du Printemps (1913) a 'virgin' must die so that spring can come again. Dance makers and performers Zahira Mous & Ivana Berkhout use this as a source of inspiration for their contemporary dance theater performance. They explore the barbaric nature of killings of women in a poetic way in a death ritual under challenging circumstances.

 

With specially composed music by electronic music composer Matt Rudge, the women are being pushed to exhaustion, not without consequences.

It is an interactive performance, possibly different each time. The Rite starts with the ending: the dance of death. Will you be able to stop it?

​

In addition to the performance, there will be a short after-talk between the makers and the audience with human rights lawyer Geraldine Moodley.

In het danstheaterduet The Rite wordt het publiek meegenomen in een sociaal experiment. “Wie neemt verantwoordelijkheid voor dit bloed?” is de vraag die de makers stellen over vrouwenmoord, ‘femicide.’ 

 

In het oude ballet Le Sacre du Printemps (1913) moet een ‘maagd’ sterven zodat het voorjaar weer kan komen. Dit gebruiken dansmakers en performers Zahira Mous en Ivana Berkhout als inspiratiebron voor hun hedendaagse danstheatervoorstelling. Ze exploreren de barbaarsheid van vrouwenmoord op poëtische wijze door middel van een doodsritueel onder uitdagende omstandigheden.

Met speciaal gecomponeerde muziek van electronic music composer Matt Rudge, worden de vrouwen muzikaal voortgestuwd tot uitputting met alle gevolgen van dien.

The Rite is een interactieve voorstelling die elke keer mogelijk anders is. The Rite begint met het einde: de dodendans. Zal jij het kunnen stoppen?

​

Als aanvulling op de voorstelling is er een kort nagesprek tussen de makers en het publiek met mensenrechtendadvocaat Geraldine Moodley.
